What to screen – and why it matters.
Why it matters: Criminal record screening helps employers identify legally reportable history that may be relevant to the responsibilities and risk profile of a role. A layered approach can combine broad database searches with county, state or federal court searches where appropriate.
Services:
Multi-State Multi-Jurisdiction (MSMJ) Criminal Database Check
Searches a nationwide criminal database compiled from county courts, state Departments of Corrections, Administrative Offices of the Courts, and other justice system sources. The search also includes key public safety and sanctions databases, including NSOR, OFAC, OIG/HHS, SAM, FBI, and Interpol resources.
Turnaround Time: Approximately 24 hours.
Note: Note: Records that lack sufficient identifying information may not appear in search results.
MSMJ Criminal Database Check with Alias
Expands the MSMJ search to include all names identified through an SSN Trace, helping uncover records associated with former names, nicknames, or alternate spellings. SSN Trace Included.
Turnaround Time: Approximately 24 hours.
County Court Criminal Record Search
Searches felony and misdemeanor records directly from county courts nationwide. When available, results may include legally reportable convictions, pending charges, and eligible non-conviction information.
Coverage: 7 years minimum; additional history reported where legally permissible.

Additional Fees: Court access fees may apply.
MSMJ Criminal Database Check (Single Name)

Coverage: 7 years minimum; additional history reported where legally permissible.
Turnaround Time: Same day to 3 business days.
Note: Federal court records may contain limited identifiers due to court redaction requirements.
Why it matters: Accurate identity and address history helps establish a stronger search foundation. It can surface former names and jurisdictions that may be relevant when determining which record searches should be ordered.
Services:
Social Security Number (SSN) Trace
Identifies names and address history historically associated with a Social Security Number. For older, non-randomized SSNs, results may include the original state and year of issuance.
Turnaround Time: Instant.
Note: This search does not verify employment eligibility or confirm a name/SSN match with SSA or DHS.
Why it matters: Criminal record screening helps employers identify legally reportable history that may be relevant to the responsibilities and risk profile of a role. A layered approach can combine broad database searches with county, state or federal court searches where appropriate.
Services:
State Criminal Record Database Search or Check
Searches state court systems or state law enforcement databases for available criminal records. Record availability, depth, and coverage vary by state.
